How We Added Curb Appeal

This is our house the day we bought it in March of 2016. We knew we had a lot of work ahead of us and we were so excited to start fixing it up! One of the things I wasn’t happy with was the curb appeal. I knew there was a lot of potential but it needed some work!

The first thing we did was rip off the window overhangs, Which made a huge improvement! The problem was that the overhangs were installed before the window trim so the installers cut little holes in the trim to go around the overhangs. Once we removed them we were left with window trim that didn’t quite look right. Additionally the window on the far left had a piece of aluminum stuck between the stucco and window trim. We ended up hiring someone to fix the window trim because the hubby was nervous to mess it up. Looking back he could have easily done what this guy did.

He literally just went over the top of the aluminum trim with thin wood! He didn't even sand or paint it! Unfortunately I don't have a picture of his work fully done before we applied the paint. However this is how it turned out once it was sanded and painted.

By this time we had also reseeded the lawn and redone the landscaping. We pulled out all the big ugly plants from the front of the house and planted small boxwood bushes. We knew they would eventually grow to make a hedge but they didn’t look bad in the short term either!

Our next step was to update the color of the trim on the house to match the window trim. So many people think you need to hire a painter to change outdoor paint color. But all you really need is some sand paper, a ladder, paint brush and outdoor paint!

We also decided to paint the porch and front steps with white concrete paint. It was originally painted in a color to match the house but that had been chipping off and we needed to improve it. It just took 2 coats of concrete paint with a brush!

We also added a window box and shutters to the front window. Unfortunately I can’t keep potted plants alive so we ended up using some fake potted Ikea plants to fill the box and they worked great!

These pictures below are actually the pictures of when we listed our house to sell it.
